The Winchester Post is an independent news and information site for Winchester and the towns around it. We work from public records, we link to them, and we are not connected to any of the councils involved.
Where we cover, and who runs it
Winchester itself, with Weeke, Stanmore, Badger Farm and the villages out to Bishop’s Waltham, New Alresford, Wickham, Denmead, Colden Common and the Meon valley, comes under Winchester City Council. Eastleigh, Chandler’s Ford and Hedge End are in Eastleigh Borough. Romsey is in Test Valley. Three authorities, three planning registers, three sets of bin arrangements, and we name the right one every time. Hampshire County Council runs roads, schools and social care across all of them. Parts of the district sit within the South Downs National Park, where the park authority decides planning applications instead of the city council, and we say so where it applies.
What we report
The councils’ planning registers and committee papers, the national park authority’s register where relevant, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Itchen and the Test, and company filings in The Gazette. In a city this heavily conserved, listed building consent and conservation area decisions come up constantly, and we report what the case files say.

Named source on every fact, linked so you can read the original. Where a record is ambiguous we say so. Plain British English, no press releases dressed up as reporting, no photographs taken from other outlets.
